ICP (Ideal Customer Profile)
Ideal customer profile: the one with the highest chance of closing, highest LTV, lowest churn and most likely to become a promoter.
ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) is the definition of the ideal customer profile for your business. It's not "anyone interested" — it's the customer who has the greatest chance of closing, the greatest LTV, smaller churn and greater probability of becoming a promoter.
How to set your ICP
- Look at your top 10-20 current customers. What do they have in common?
- Identify patterns in: company size, revenue range, sector, role of decision maker, problem they solved.
- Also identify the “cultural fit”: what type of customer is loyal? which type is difficult?
- Document on one page: "ICP of company X is Y, with characteristics A, B, C, in segment D".
- Review every 6 months — ICP evolves with the product.
Why ICP Matters for WhatsApp
Segmenting message sending via ICP increases conversion by 3-10x. Segmentation which is not through ICP is the same as an "email list" — sends it to everyone, converts little, burns reputation.
Well-defined ICP example
"Brazilian SME with 5-50 employees, average monthly ticket R$ 200-2,000, which already uses WhatsApp Business but has difficulty organizing conversations. The decision-maker is the partner or commercial manager. Company grows 20%+ per year. Industry: services, retail or healthtech. Location: capitals and medium-sized cities."
What is NOT ICP
- "Everyone who wants to sell more" — too vague, doesn't segment.
- "Large companies" — no tangible criteria.
- "Who has WhatsApp" — virtually every Brazilian.
ICP in action on WhatsApp
Configure tags in CRM that correspond to the ICP: company size, sector, ticket. Filter new leads by this intersection. Sending messages only goes to leads within the ICP. Conversion rises, cost falls.
